Greetings, Red Oak Rotarians!
I hope your New Year celebrations were safe and filled with blessings! We've had several weeks off from Rotary, so hopefully, everyone has had a chance to relax, recharge and reset for the upcoming year.
Often, a new year means resolutions and goals. Did you know that on average only 1% of people who set resolutions actually keep them for 11-12 months? I don't make resolutions. I set a few goals in areas I want to focus on (family, health, finances, etc.) and I make a plan to achieve those goals. I also set a word of the year. Typically, it's a word that addresses a focus I want to have or word that will motivate me for the year.
I think the Red Oak Rotary Club word of the year (a least the next six months) should be challenge. We should be challenging ourselves to grow our membership. We should be challenging ourselves to become more involved as members, as leaders. We should be challenging ourselves to become more visible in the community. But also, we are going to be facing challenges - the Evening Extension, cans, leadership succession planning, and more.
So, let's take a deep breath, welcome in 2025 and prepare ourselves for a successful and challenging year! I'm up for it, are you?
If you are even remotely interested in taking on a leadership role in our club, please let me know. Having all of our officer positions filled, and having our committees full with a chairperson each, will help us have a successful upcoming year. Perhaps this isn't the year you take on a leadership role, but maybe you shadow someone and learn how they do their role. Maybe, after a year of transitioning and some learning, you'll be ready to tackle a new position next year. The sky's the limit and I encourage you to challenge yourself!
Respectfully,
Emily H. Martin
