New members are attracted to viberant, welcoming and inclusive clubs. Do we make the cut?
Recently, I had the privilege to attend District Team Training Seminar, as I prepare to be an Assistant Governor next year. During one of the afternoon sessions, we had an interactive challenge. One group was to identify the qualities of a vibrant club, while the other group listed signs that a club is welcoming and inclusive.
Being vibrant is not just about recruiting new members. Energetic, positive clubs also retain members who are active and engaged in club business and activities. This creates an energy within the club that builds on itself and continues to attract new members and increase the impact of the club in our community.
So, what does a vibrant club look like? Here's the list we came up with that afternoon.
- Positive vibe
- Intergenerational
- Extra-curricular activities
- Actually do something
- Do things outside of Rotary with each other
- Constructive discussions/disagreements
- Come early/stay late
- Lots of volunteers
- Friendly
- Has a succession plan
- People want to lead
- Everyone knows your name
- Fun! Smile! Laughter!
- People like donating money (happy bucks)
- Multi-racial/diverse/multi-gender
- Positive visibility - good community PR
How many of these describe our club? How do we score? What other attributes would YOU add?
